Dalle de verre uses glass slabs roughly an inch thick, faceted at the edges with a hammer and chisel rather than cut with a wheel. The facets catch and scatter light instead of transmitting it cleanly, which gives the piece a completely different character from anything cut from sheet glass — more like held light than a picture made of light. This was our first dalle de verre commission at this scale, and we underestimated the epoxy cure time badly enough that installation slipped six weeks.
Fractured Meridian
Slab glass an inch thick, faceted with a hammer and chisel — the technique reads completely differently from cut sheet glass.
