The pavilion was built where the site’s last mature elm stood before it was lost to Dutch elm disease. We were sent a cross-section of the felled trunk and matched the dalle de verre palette directly to its grain — the amber and umber tones in the glass are our attempt to keep the tree’s actual colour in the garden, not just its memory.
Requiem for the Elm
Cut from the last elm on the site before Dutch elm disease took it, the window's amber tones are matched to the tree's own grain.
